Show week- 10th to 13th of December

From Tuesday to Friday the entire cast would be performing 6 shows: 4 performed by the older cast and 2 by the younger cast. We were all incredibly excited but also slightly nervous because we knew there were still areas that were slightly sticky. I had also been in a concert over the weekend singing quite intensely and so my voice was starting to go and so I couldn't 'belt' much if anything and instead was focusing on hitting the notes instead of being powerful. Before the matinee on tuesday, Rowan and I were taken aside by one of the directors and given some advice about the Drive In scene as this was weak when rehearsed in the dress run; he told me to make everything look far more forced and almost aggressive especially with the kiss so that the audience really get the picture of what Danny is trying to be like.

Tuesday Notes & thoughts:

Matinee: Overall the matinee was sloppy and there were areas that still definitely need work for example the prom scene really dragged. My notes were that for the opening Sandy i came in almost an octave too low but Rowan also came in on the wrong note so our MD decided to add an introduction to the music that gave us our starting notes. Also, in the finale i started to feel my voice going so decided to deliberately drop it an octave to make it comfortable in my range as i had a show that night so didn't want to not be able to sing at all.

Evening: The evening performance was much better than the matinee performance and felt successful in my non-verbal communication skills as I got a lot of laughs for a lot of my work in Act 2 Scene 1 and in the Prom Scene. However, there were a few slip ups from the rest of the cast that meant as a whole we felt quite low after this performance.

Thursday Notes & Thoughts:

Thursday night went so smoothly, my voice was slightly raspy towards the very end of the show but for the most part I felt really good as there were no missed lines, there was good audience reactions and everything felt slick. There was one moment that Rowan cut off my lines but after speaking to her this was because she had had a costume malfunction and she was distracted.

Friday Notes & Thoughts:

Friday was terrific: we all had an absolute blast and gave it all we could, transitions, dances and lines were slick. The audience were amazing and it was great to get such positive reactions. Unfortunately my voice was starting to fade so I was quite raspy but sill managed to hit all of the notes. It was a very emotional night having to say goodbye to 3 cast members and the last time we would ever perform Grease as a cast.
