In Tuesday's rehearsal we went through Act 1 Scene 7 as it was messy when we last rehearsed it, and as a cast we were unsure on this scene. We went through the scene slowly making sure to get every line cue and stage direction right. Once we had gone through it slowly, we did the scene full out to make sure everyone knew what they were doing which they did, and it was a successful run through - I was particularly focusing on my body language in this scene as although I don’t say a lot I need to have a very clear mood throughout this scene. The only part we had to go through again after the run was the stage fight between Rowan and Eliza as it was very rough and not blocked properly. It is important that this part of the scene is massively rehearsed as it is an important part in the scene, the more rehearsed this is the more natural and realistic it will become, also this fight could potentially be dangerous if they don't know what they are doing and it could lead to injury's so we had to make sure they were comfortable with everything they were doing. After this we went over Act 1 Scene 2 again as it's the opening scene in the show and a very important scene as it introduces us to all the principle characters. When rehearsing this scene, we worked with pace and reactions between characters as the reactions are weak currently. It is vital that we practice and perfect every reaction in the show as this creates the shows lively and fun atmosphere. On the boys side once we figured out the order to greet each other and order of reactions to things it started to look much more click and effective. We then ran Act 2 Scene 5 which is the most unrehearsed scene in the show. The run of the scene was surprisingly good as all the blocking was correct and their characters were really coming alive. After we rehearsed this and went through the scene to make sure everyone knew their cue line's it looked really good and clean, this will definitely need to be rehearsed more before the show. I am trying quite hard to recreate a similar reaction to when Danny first sees Sandy in the opening scene for the comedic value.
Friday was the all day rehearsal where we had both the younger and older cast. In today's rehearsal our aim was to attempt a full run through with each a cast where they would stop if they needed to only for transitions with set and for music as it was the first time we had a small part of the orchestra with us. The cast also had to get used to having a big TV screen at the back of the hall where the conductor Mr Pitts was. This screen was there so that we as the cast can see their timing cues as they are a vital part of the show. At the beginning of the day we needed to get ready, arrange our costumes and make sure we had everything in place ready for the run, so we didn't start mic check until about 10am. After this we did a quick vocal and physical warm up so that they felt mentally and physically prepared for the runs. This included a vocal exercise of using different voices all across your range to say different vegetables; should rolls and stretching; sirening and scales. The older cast started by running act 2 first as we hadn't rehearsed this act as much as act one so we had to make sure we could defiantly see this act with both casts today because if an act was going to fall over it would be act 2. For our first ever full run with costume's and band it was very good. There were a lot of transition issues and there were a few sticky moments we needed to go through but all in all it looked good for a first time run. We then were given group notes where my main note was to make sure to keep my body open to the entire audience which would help me with my non-vocal communication skills. The older cast then ran the first act which was very good. This act has really come together and really flows as it has been incredibly rehearsed and so looks so clean and slick that the scenes just flow from one to the other, making the show look highly professional. After this the band went through any issues they had during the run with timing of songs, length of songs for transitions etc. which they made sure were sorted and perfect before the end of the rehearsal.
Saturdays Rehearsal was band-call so we had the full orchestra to rehearse with which gave the cast a great opportunity to fully sing all of our songs with the orchestra and mics so that we adjusted to how much we have to project etc. I was happy in how i sang Sandy as hit all the notes and could be heard fine, my feedback from the conductor was that i needed to watch the screen more as i was either coming in too early or holding a note too long and he needed to let me know if this happens. The rest of the rehearsal was mainly dedicated to fixing any problems we faced on Friday with the orchestra particularly dance numbers and getting the pace and timings right. One dance that we had to spend quite a bit of time with was Greased Lightning as we had added cloths to the dance break and keeping the pace of the choreography with these was difficult.
